It would make sense for wartime use that the lid be attached via chain to prevent losing it--and happily this yielded these gorgeous weld marks attaching the chain to the lid and back of the vessel

Painted by a Willie Gaori of the "Gaori homestead," c. 1940s or so I believe. 5 7 8" x 4 1 4" x 3 4" and in good condition.
