This wonderful little turtle-shaped Coushatta hanging “effigy” basket is made of coiled Louisiana native pine needles sewn together with raffia

I would guess it dates to the 1960s or early 70s

though certainly would be useful for all sorts of detail oriented tasks

and a nice reminder that it is perfectly justifiable to invest time in doing things that have no particular practical purpose other than to amuse oneself

which is the perfect size and shape to fill with everything from daffodils to lilac to peonies and more
