What makes it so interesting is that a large very attractive nautilus shell with a glorious Mother-of-Pearl finish has been fitted to the carved pommel of the wood hilt giving it an almost majestic dramatic effect

Original Brass marked English River Police Truncheon retaining its original Ebony wood type handle. Marked "III" over "G. R." over "THAMES POLICE" over "No 27" over "WAPPING" on the brass truncheon shaft which is surmounted with a substantial brass ball. Making this a fearsome club that would enforce the law in any circumstances. Dating from the reign of King George III
