This is a very scarce Austrian socket bayonet, made to fit Flintlock & Percussion Jger (hunter) rifles, used by skilled advance troops. It features a socket bayonet type 20" spike blade with stamping of VJ on the blade's ricasso. The socket has a screw locking mechanism to fix to a dovetailed block along the side of the barrel muzzle. These are very rare and reference listings are unfortunately not to be found.
