An excavated example of the Hotchkiss shell still retaining its base and nose cap. Shell measures 7" long. It was recovered in Bedford County, Tennessee near the site of the Battle of Hoover's Gap. The M1841 bronze 6 pounder cannon proved to be an excellent weapon during the MexicanAmerican War. Variants of the M1841 bronze 6 pounder were also manufactured in the Confederacy though records are sketchy. Because the South
