which is a type specifically given out / sold at temples between Dec 21 and Feb 4 to align with stars that warded off negative occurrences at home

Likely brought back by a US Soldier after WWII, this is a very nice large Italian National Flag banner, which looks to have seen extensive service during the war. It measures approximately 35 x 53, is of multi piece construction with each color a separate piece. The flag does not have grommets but instead two hanging rings, which are a bit oxidized but still well attached. There is some tearing in the flag as shown, this example
