The postage stamp on the back is dated 1908 but it was written and mailed in 1912

It appears that it was previously used as a planter

Sweet, Stocky Little Spool Chair with Carved Posts material I am completely taken withA curious little chair, which I purchased from a Pennsylvania based dealer at Brimfield from whom I always covet many many things. Made of old spools and carved slats of wood, with whittled posts finials extending from the spools at the back of the chair. I thought perhaps those posts once held another layer of spools, but they are too thick, so I guess it was built just like this. I really love its squatness and its oddness and the significant love
