I have seen a similar piece described as a Turkish "symbols" rug

but I have developed quite a fondness for old paintings of them

but was done in the 1930s by Helen Wagner Malta (1912-1975)

It is in excellent condition and measures 8 1/2" across at handles

I really love both the silhouettes and the color combinations on these, and the abundant polka dots on this one the backside of which is topped with white paint spatters all over, making me think it bore witness
