I found a stone carved figure in Maine clearly made by the same person as this one

Found in Vermont

especially the sculptural waves of hair that frame her face and more or less entirely envelop her neck

showing a little redder where it is carved

says American--though it seems more common to find frogs inside British vessels than American ones

Lovely Old Painted Wooden Apple Shaped Puzzle carved acorn I found a stone carvedI've had a few old painted treen apple boxes (which were made in Japan for Western export, beginning in the late 19th c. I believe) and I've looked at many more (some made as nesting boxes, some with roulette games inside) but I'd never seen one configured as a puzzle before.
