the box is in great structural condition

with lovely blue and brown painterly scalloped banding on the exterior and a nice finish with two bands on the interior of the rim

with a bit of greening to the metal on the underside and a tiny bit on the base

I wish I know the maker of this thing

I think it probably dates to the 1940s or so and came from a factory in Massachusetts or New Hamphire

Though without its slide top lid, I think the box is original to them, and think they likely date to the first quarter of the 20th century, though could be even a bit older than that. There are probably a handful of them missing, but almost a full box still, and I must say that in laying them out to photograph them, I was really tempted to spend a few hours playing.
