all but one of the original nails on the body of the box are in place

with silver leaves around the perimeter (akin to what one sees on framed painted miniature portraits of the time) that amplify the borders on the lid itself

and it seems perhaps the watercolor was based on a still from a movie

And such a beauty this one

Perhaps he lost his family along with way and now finds himself alone and untethered, feeling to me rather like a character from Beckett. 2 15 16" t x 5 8" w. Good condition, no losses, crudely carved and painted (which is much of why love him), black marker and watercolor on wood.
