but there is something uniquely satisfying about large sets of unpainted wooden ones like this--elegant and elemental and like the pure embodiment of creative possibility

in what I think's a pretty great design

and darker on the top one

but could be hung just from nails on the wall in various ways

Fine and Very Lovely Antique Treen Lidded Jar, Presumed Early 19th Century British clay figure. Grain painting was done withI love a pretty piece of antique treenware but mostly hold off (in no small part due to prices), but the curvaceous form and rich color and patina on this small lidded jar, together with that perfect little button of a handle at the center of the lid, were just too lovely to resist. Early 19th century British, I believe, and I'd guess made as a jar for a fairly precious spice, though I'm not entirely certain about that. Perfect now filled with a
