The first five chapters on the mid nineteenth to mid twentieth centuries focus on six individuals: Canadas first prime minister, a university president, a Christian missionary, a jurist, an Ottawa mandarin, and a female university professor. Although the five men each demonstrated some variety in their responses to the First Nations, all argued that
