A circular medal constructed of silver, the obverse centre bears the left facing image of la Republique wearing an ornate winged visor helmet circumscribed with REPVBLIQVE FRANCAISE (FRENCH REPUBLIC), the reverse centre bears the image of an anchor, a trumpet and leaves, a flag pole is centred with HONNEUR ET PATRIE (HONOUR AND HOMELAND) inscribed on it, circumscribed with MADAGASCAR
